About ten years ago, I developed what the doctors have described as Eczema inside my inner ears. I liken the itching to poison ivy trapped in my ear.
Yeah, not fun.
To this day I haven’t discovered a cure for it. I’ve found triggers for sure that make it worse, and try to avoid those things, but still no cure.
Just the other day the Lord impressed on my heart,
“you can’t heal what you keep picking at.”
Have you had those moments where the Lord speaks so clear and profound? This was one of those moments.
Now this applies to my ears because I don’t let them fully heal . . . (if this is TMI, scroll on). I will grab that forbidden Q-tip and itch my ears so much that it continues the vicious cycle of opening up a wound over and over.
Picking at a scab also releases endorphins, which can act as a reward. It can help to distract us when we are bored, stressed, or anxious.
Just like a scab can’t fully heal if you keep picking at it, we can’t heal.
Are you constantly picking at others while asking them to change?
Are you picking at things in your own life that you continually try and take control of, when only the Lord can heal it with time?
What are you constantly picking at in your own life?
What do you need to release and let heal?
You can’t heal what you keep picking at.
