Surrender
Sometimes we think we’ve surrendered.
Perhaps we’ve opened a few fingers, and it feels like we have
our palm wide open.
It hurts.
We feel vulnerable and open
for attack.
So we instinctively pull our fingers back closed,
clutching our fists.
Our knuckles bulge white from
the intensity of our grip.
Surrender.
It seems wrong.
It feels like the opposite of freedom.
So we retreat because it is
comfortable.
Surrender.
We see others across the shore,
they’ve reached the other side.
They’ve endured cramping in their side,
and the exhaustion of waves chopping against
their raw face.
But they pushed through the pain,
and reached the other side.
Surrender.
It comes with some sacrifice.
It goes against everything our will wants.
But it’s everything it needs.
So open your hands.
Leave them open to the Father.
If you resist the urge to closed them again,
He will be able to fill your hands with blessings.
Overflowing amounts of blessing.
Will you leave them open even though it hurts?
Will you leave them open in faith?
Will you endure the longing to take back your control?
It will be worth it on the other side!
Isaiah 40:31 – But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
