We are restless.
Always wanting to push the fast forward button.
No waiting.
No breathing.
No being still.
We see the next moment up ahead and want to rush there.
Careless, we neglect the present.
The gift of now is being overshadowed by what we think is better down the road.
I see mothers with small children wishing for the day that their kiddos were just a bit older. For the days and nights are so long and tiresome.
But I was them and now I know that little babies with gummy mouths gobbling my chin are precious, divine, sacred moments I’ll never get back. Cheek to cheek with babies full of sweet-smelling baby awesomeness.
But we rush ahead and miss the moments that truly do go by in a flash.
Perhaps it is a job promotion, or graduation, or getting to go on a big vacation? Whatever it is that you are striving after to “get to” isn’t as important as your moments now. Today.
Although today is filled with seemingly mundane, boring and trivial moments, they are actually filled to the brim with some of the most precious moments you’ll ever be given.
So don’t miss them?
Slow down.
Stop running ahead.
Enjoy now.
