You have such amazing power.  That sweet baby that you’ve raised, is soon becoming a woman.  It’s scary and exciting all at the same time.  What you tell her about herself, she will believe.  Those words?  They go down deep inside her and she recalls them on her pillow at night.

So how can we remind our girls that they are beautiful, God’s way?  What can we say, and how can we say it to her?

God is a master artist!

My daughter loves art.  She enjoys creating and designing.  She gets that from her Mama.  There is one thing she needs to be reminded of.  God is a master designer.  He made each one of us unique, and He never makes mistakes.  Psalm 139:14 says that we are fearfully and wonderfully made!  Remind your daughter that just like a snowflake is not like its neighbor snowflake, no two people are exactly the same.

Reinforce and praise her when her inner beauty shines.

Our world is quick to notice when someone is physically attractive.  But what about the inner beauty?  Shouldn’t that be the thing we give our attention to?  When your daughter does something kind, praise her!  When she shows compassion, acknowledge it!  Tell her that her inner beauty makes her sparkle and shine and glow!  Tell her that you see Jesus in her!

Ask her what she thinks is important about beauty?

Find out where she’s at?  Give her a little quiz and find out what she thinks is beautiful about her closest friends?  This will give you inside peek at her heart and what she values when it comes to this topic.

Always bring it back to God.

When you see a beautiful sunrise, acknowledge God.  When you see your child do something strong and courageous, give God glory!  Our children need to know that beauty starts and ends with God!  He is the creator of beauty and He deserves the credit.

Never use the words “diet” or “fat” or defeating words.

Be very careful about the words you use in front of your children, especially your little girls.  I really try to make every effort not to complain about my figure, or use the word diet or fat or words like that.  Instead, talk about striving to be more healthy and strong.  Let the focus always be improving our body that we may be able to give Him glory and have more energy to serve Him and others.  Our body is the temple of God, and we need to treat it as such!  That includes not saying negative words about ourselves!

Remind her that she can be confident and strong, and still hold onto humility.

In Proverbs 31 it talks about a woman of God being hard working, strong, and capable!  She stretches her hand to the poor and is giving and compassionate.  She is not afraid for her future, because she plans and has a purpose.  She is confident.  Strength and honor are her clothing!  Her words are full of wisdom and kindness!  Proverbs 31:30 says,

Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.

Let her hear it from Daddy.

Oh how important it is for our young girls to hear that that are beautiful from their Daddy!  If not her Daddy, a male role model in her life.

Make sure she’s listening to the right voices.

We need to be oh so careful about what we let our children watch on television, listen to through songs, and who they hang out with.  If they are listening to the wrong voices, they will start believing the lies of the world.
