We gather around circular tables, in hopes of receiving. I want so desperately to soak up every minute. I glance around the room at the faces of motherhood. I sketch their faces into my mind and my heart. Beaming smiles. Fearful wonder. Some are timid and withdrawn.
Women chat and connect. They exchange friendly questions like, “so how many children do you have?”
The faces of motherhood are beautiful, and here, at Raising Generations Today, we are beautiful together.
Not because we do motherhood perfectly, but we choose to get up the next morning, and do it again. To try a little harder. To lay our pride and selfishness on that cold bathroom floor, as we cradle a sick child hunched over a porcelain bowl. When we serve food like a short order cook, and correct math problems, and referee disputes, we try to make Christ the center of it all. In every moment.
What a beautiful weekend this was. Half the time I was choking back tears, fearful I may burst and do the ugly cry. Warm tears trickle down my face. I look around, and realize, I’m not alone.
This conference was one of renewal for me. Hope. To remind me that motherhood is a beautiful and God honoring calling.
That when I feel small, in the mundane, I will remember this sea of women, and know, we are stronger together. Motherhood unites us and Christ is the glue.
