We grab each other closer, fingers intertwine, as we huddle on a seat of love. After three babies, and nine years of marriage, we are more in love today than ever. The butterflies are stronger, and the kisses are even sweeter and love is understood much deeper.
We thought we knew one another when we said I do, but we didn’t really know anything at all about love. Because marriage, and babies, and trials and struggles bring out the love. Like a perfected baked good, years together make the finished product what it is. Taking a pie out of the oven too soon, makes for a gooey mess; but the time of refining and heat bring about the beauty of unconditional love. It’s part of the process, and it’s the only way to receive it.
It’s amazing that after seeing all of our pet peeves, not so fine moments, and bad habits, we love one another even deeper. It’s because our marriage is built on a firm foundation of God’s love. His grace is what seasons the intimacy of our friendship.
Butterflies aren’t just created in the hour of happy moments, but in the hour of adversity and tears. When we move past hurtful words and choose to hold one another closer. When we are quick to forgive and hold an open hand instead of a clenched fist. When we look into one another’s eyes and know that we married a mate for life. Our souls have been knit together into one; seamlessly perfected by God’s beauty and grace.
Today I’m thankful for my husband. Not because he’s perfect, but because God made him perfect for me. Life is so much sweeter because of you, Babe.
