Warm air blows from vents within four walls. I take the trash out in my pajamas, white socks and brown high heeled shoes hoping none of my neighbors spot my stylish, no-make up, no-shower get up. Frost lightly dusts green grass and white billows from my mouth and nose as I exhale. It’s cold this morning and I’m grateful for the cozy warmth I quickly slip back into, called home.
The smell of pumpkin and cloves and spices and all sorts of yummy aroma captivate my senses. Dirty dishes fill the sink from last night and new ones pile on top. I smell those too. The boys are playing and the toys are scattered and noisy. I’m home.
The key to having a thankful heart
is stopping to awaken the senses. It’s being grateful for what you do have, and silencing your bickering heart.
As you see these gifts, scratch them onto lined paper or tap out letters onto white screen.
Better yet, seal them upon your heart.
See: Look around you right now and see what you do have, not what you don’t. Thank the Lord out loud, for these present gifts. See the Lord in it all.
Psalm 34:5 “Those who look to Him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed.”
Listen: Open you ears and pay attention to what you hear. Little children playing, maybe even fighting. Be thankful for the little people you do have. Listen to the Word of God in your life and obey it.
Luke 11:28 “But He said, Blessed rather are those who hear the Word of God and keep it.”
Taste: Be thankful for the food you have in your cupboards. Many go weeks without much to eat at all. Instead of saying, I have nothing to eat, eat what you do have in your cupboards and fridge and be thankful. Better yet, feast on the Lord.
Psalm 34:8 “Oh taste and see that the Lord is good, blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him.”
Touch: Be aware of that cozy sweater up around you neck. Be thankful for the heat that warms your skin while frost sticks to the cold earth outside window panes. Remember, that God sees your trials and your pain too! Run to Him… for He knows.
Hebrews 4:15 “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feelings of our infirmities; bu t was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.”
Smell: Thank God for the smells that fill your home. Even for the dirty dishes, because it means you have food to eat. Remember, as a child of the King, you are a sweet smelling aroma to your Savior!
2 Corinthians 2:15 “For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing.”
