Deep breath,
Teeth clenched,
Exhale…
Shoulders droop towards the floor.
Where to begin?
Grimy dishes needing to be scrubbed,
dried cheerios stuck to the floor.
Food… that’s right, surely the kids need to be fed!
Then I hear a stuffy plea,
Mommy, can you wipe my nose?
but who has time for that?
vying for my attention,
tugging at my arm,
but even stronger on my heart.
and kindly invite me to seek your face.
(Proverbs 8:17)
Maybe later Lord,
for surely, out of everyone, you understand how busy I am?
But once again, you bid me come…
and invite me to
sit at your feet.
a sore back,
a laden heart!
Come my child, I will give you rest.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
(Matthew 11:28,30)
But I don’t have time right now,
I have to get this,
and do that,
fix those boo-boo’s,
and comb the curls
piled atop my little one’s head!
Then there is always discipline,
teaching here,
and guiding there…
But you ask me,
How can you teach them if you don’t
stop and listen to
THE teacher,
your Heavenly Father,
Your Lord?
Come my child, I will show you great and
mighty things which you do not know.
(Jeremiah 33:3)
So with all my might,
I STOP;
I PAUSE;
I PRAY…
And it is in that moment that all of life makes sense,
there is perfect peace,
a holy communion like none other!
Build yourself a cell in your heart, and retire there to pray — Catherine of Siena
