The rain was pouring down in buckets, smashing against the clouded glass, with force enough to blow it to a shattered mess.
I looked outside and saw the waves crashing upon the shore; fast approaching our wooden beach house with each passing moment.
no where I wanted to go.
Thunder and lightning ran together culminating into a marvelous crash; there was no pause, no waiting to count the seconds; they became one.
My goose-pimpled arms gained comfort under a towering afghan, my toes nice and toasty, thanks to my favorite fluffy slippers and the blazing glow from a worn, paint-chipped burning stove.
I went again, to the window, smeared with a fog of heavy precipitation. Placing my hand over my eyes to shield the glare, I peered out the glass. Other homes came crashing down onto the shifting sand, washing the wooden rubble away into a muddy, foamy sea.
The darkness was all around, but light shined within.
Our house had been built upon a rock, a strong rock; the Rock.
When the waves come, (because it is promised they will) when the wind and storms hit your house, what will the outcome be? When all of the houses around you are crashing to the ground, will your home be left standing firm?
Luke 6:48
He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid a foundation on the rock; and when a flood occurred, the torrent burst against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built.
Lord, cause us not to work to consume or to climb, but to engage in the true work of building houses of prayer, places where You are at Home. Come, find Shelter here, where we find Shelter in You….
