Your Vote On Election Day
Your vote on election day doesn’t define you. As you attempt to color in that tiny bubble, with your shaky marker in hand, you will not walk out a different person. You are still you.
Your voice is extremely important and your right to express yourself in this manner is very valuable. EVERYONE GET OUT AND VOTE.
Your vote on election day doesn’t define you as much as the way you conduct yourself leading up to the election. How are you and I interacting online when we attempt to have civil conversations with people with other viewpoints?
Do we tell others what they should be doing or shouldn’t be doing?
Do we make fun of them if they don’t agree with our view?
Do we argue and bicker?
Are we being nasty and calling people awful names?
Are we condescending and rude?
You see, this is what truly defines you and I. What we say and how we say it in our day-to-day lives.
Social media can be an “easy” place to spew out filth. Just because we may be passionate about a certain topic, doesn’t mean we have the right to degrade and belittle others.
Questions To Ask Yourself Today:
Am I praying about the election more than I’m talking about it online?
Am I praying about my decision to be God-honoring?
Am I able to be at peace with my decision and not worry about my friend’s vote?
Are my interactions about this topic causing me to become bitter and angry towards others who disagree with me?
Is this election distracting me from having a biblical and gospel-centered worldview?
Do I believe God is sovereign and in control?
This 2016 Election
This election is important, but it’s not the most important thing we should be focusing on.
Think about a vice or sin that you’ve been struggling with for most of your life. Are you seeking the Lord to overcome that personal sin or addiction, or is this election a way to divert your attention and sweep it under the rug?
Are you praying for your lost neighbor or family member? Do you grieve over lost souls?
Do you do your part in making a difference in the world? Do you give to the poor and needy?
Are you taking care of widows and orphans? If not, how can you start today?
Are you striving to have a godly home, not just a pinterest-perfect one?
How are you investing in your marriage? In what ways could you love your spouse better today?
Are you seeking the heart of your children? What ways are you praying for them to see Jesus in their everyday life?

1 Timothy 2:1-4
First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, 2 for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. 3 This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
Romans 13:1-2
Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment.
1 Peter 2:18-25
