Today’s a little different over at Five Minute Friday. Normally we are given a word prompt to write about for five minutes. Today, we are given a challenge:
She creates beauty in the everyday ugliness.
She exudes strength, when others are weak.
She cleans up messes all day long; the physical, spiritual and mental.
She loves to cook and ministers to the soul through her hospitable heart.
She has a nick name for everything animate and inanimate.
She is silly and youthful; she’ll never grow up.
She let me lay on her soft lap as a child as she caressed my hair (the times when I was vulnerable and sick).
She created memories during the holidays with fireplaces and music and laughter.
She taught me what hard work looks like.
She shows me what hard work looks like.
She told me that cleaning my home would not always get recognition and that I needed to even clean my toilets unto the Lord. (Colossians 3:23)
She loved the unlovable and welcomed the broken and beaten and trodden down into our home as her own.
She said no when other moms were always saying yes.
She said no, and it saved me from a world of mistakes and heartache.
She reminded me that I wouldn’t always feel in love with my husband, and on those days, love is a choice and a commitment… forever.
She let us play long and hard outside.
She told me every choice to obey God has a blessing, and every choice to disobey has a consequence.
She was always there when I got home from school; even at age 18.
She’s had the same, worn out Bible since as far back as I can remember.
She treasures that Bible, beaten up, underlined, and lived out.
She loves her sweet Daddy who is in a home with dementia and always called her precious lady.
I hope to be half the mama she was to me…
I hope to instill memories and laughter and God-inspired living before my children.
I will… day, by day, by day, with the Lord’s help.
I will choose, to abide in His love.
I will choose, to make His heart my home.
I will choose, to rest in Him and exude His grace and joy.
