A writer’s heart is one of life’s greatest mysteries. As beautiful and magnificent as any world wonder. You, the writer, who are often left in the dark yourself. It is a mystery that you constantly are trying to figure out. Is it a gift or a curse, this struggle with the ebb and flow of words across the mind.
But you are compelled… just as you wait for your next breath of air, you wait for the words to come. Sometimes the silence is long, and drawn out. You wonder if it might be gone forever.
So don’t lose heart, dear writer, when the words lay silent under the bedrock of your soul. Just live. Go on living. The words will come. They will never leave you. They always, always rise to the surface at a moment’s notice.
As for the writer who longs for a published book? It seems to me, if we don’t have a published pile of papers within our fingertips, inadequacy can creep up and the comparison thief can snatch our writer joy.
You, dear writer, are not inadequate. You are full to the brim with bright words, that light up lives and bring hope to the weary ones. If book publication is in your future, so be it. But don’t find your worth or seal of approval in publication. Publication is certainly spectacular, but it does not mean you’ve arrived as a writer.
So, sweet writer friends, what do we do with all this built up energy and passion for the written word?
– Just keep writing.
– Be content in the silent moments.
– Live your life first.
– Write when the words come.
– Be patient.
– Thank God for the gift of a writer’s heart.
– Don’t find your worth as a writer in publication.
– You are worthy because you are found in Him.
I hope this encourages your heart. We get one another, don’t we? Us writers are kindred spirits. So continue, and press on. There are seasons of life, and so there are seasons for our words. As the world turns, so will your words, forever…
