Mary Beth Chapman’s book, Choosing To SEE: A Journey of Struggle and Hope, continues its place on The New York Times’ Hardcover Nonfiction Best Sellers List just one month since its release. Mary Beth Chapman, wife of singer/songwriter Steven Curtis Chapman, shares in her book ‘Choosing to See’ her journey with God through the ups and downs of life.
She is vulnerable and raw in this book.
So candid.
So honest.
So filled with the Holy Spirit.
I felt her pain.
I felt her grief.
I felt her hope in our Savior, Jesus Christ.
I cried with her (many times).
I rejoiced with her (countless times).
I was urged to run to the arms of Jesus with her.
I could relate with her issues with being a control-freak.
She speaks about the crazy, upside down life being married to a singer/songwriter.
Her marriage problems.
Living with depression.
The adoption of three orphans from China.
CHOOSING TO SEE what God was doing amidst the loss of her daughter Maria, accidentally killed by her son, Will.
Mary Beth dedicates the book to her son Will:
“You have been entrusted with an incredible pain. I am so sorry. I wish as your mom that I could take it away, but I know that God has a plan for you to steward this story well and to minister to others through your suffering. You are my hero, as well as Maria’s…she loved you so much, as do I!”
And so friends, I would like to share this book with you (or a friend/family member). This is my gently-used copy. I promise… it is in excellent condition (minus a few scattered tear-stained pages- wink wink).

As the parent of a child with special needs and a pastor’s wife I often have the opportunity to talk with moms that are going through similar difficulties. I like to read books that I can recommend to others in this kind of struggle and pain.

Traci,
I would love to have an opportunity to read this book. I also have a lady in my Senior Adult Sunday Class that I teach who would be ministered to by this book. This sweet soul has dealt with so much loss in her life and would be greatly ministered to by the Chapman’s amazing story of faith!
Thank you for the opportunity to maybe get to read and share this book sooner than later!!

I so wanted to got to the NIGHT WITH THE CHAPMAN’S when they were in town but it didn’t work out. While losing a parent and losing a child are SOOOOOO very different, they both take God to set the world straight again. I would love to read her story of going from the sorrow to the joy.

What a lady and what a family, huh? I really enjoyed hearing Mary Beth talk at WOF this year, and ever since I thought, “man, I’d love to read that book.” As a mom, I can only imagine just how hard this was for their family, but I love how God is using their tragic story to minister to others. I believe there is power in giving testimonies, and that is why I want to read the testimony first hand.

I’m also a follower if your blog. 🙂

Sounds like she has so much positive and spiritual perspective to offer on life. And, so often, that comes from experiencing deep pain, which it sounds like Mary Beth has. This sounds like a great book for anyone to read. And great review. wb

I’m not quite sure what else to say, except that I felt moved by reading your post about this book. I feel that the Lord has called me to write and share my story, and it is indeed a “journey of struggle and hope.” I would love to read Mary Beth’s book. I also follow your blog. 🙂

my mom LOVES Mary Beth Chapman. She would be thrilled to read another one of her books. And maybe then I could borrow it after 🙂

I would LOVE to read her book. In fact, I literally had it in my hands a few weeks ago at the Christian bookstore, but couldn’t quite afford it! Their family has such a powerful story. I’d love to read it from her perspective!!

I’ve followed the Chapman Channel blog for a while. I feel like I’ve gone through this journey with them in a sense. I would donate this book to our church library so others could be inspired by Maria’s life and her family’s faith.
Thanks, Traci.

Traci, I think this would be a great book to read. I am encouraged to see how the Chapmans have kept their faith and relied on God during their life and how they have handled the loss of their daughter. I would really enjoy reading this book and being able to share it with others that could benefit from it.

I would love to read this! As someone who struggles with chronic illness, I know that “Not my will, but Yours, Lord” can be very difficult to say. It’s not always easy to see the “light at the end of the tunnel” when you feel you are stuck in the middle and deluged with darkness! I love to hear the story of those who have fought & won such victories!

I saw Mary Beth at the Women Of Faith Conference and her session was incredibly moving. It was so great to hear her side of things. Loving this family and their ministry for years, I’d love to read her book. Thanks for making that opportunity possible for somebody, Traci.

I am at a turning point in my life where I really need the strength of the Lord. I have suffered from depression also, and I think I could benefit from this book. Thank you for giving us this great opportunity.

We don’t know why it happened… we don’t know many things. What we do know is through the story many will find Jesus and hope and the reality that even when life crushes you, the thing to do is to stand up and walk taking one step at a time.

Oh Traci – my heart is stirred just reading your beautiful post – with such startingly beautiful pictures! Anyone who is struggling would benefit from this amazing book. My very favorite is autobiographies. I have a friend who continues to struggle – so much – a year after her divorce, and another friend who is very low after losing an adult child…and losing her husband (50) a few years ago. I don’t believe anyone can minister to another like one who has ‘walked in the same shoes’. Thanks for the opportunity to win a copy of this amazing God-story.

I follow your blog via email…and am blessed!

I have been wanting to read this book since it came out, because I think much can be learned from the honesty of people who have faced loss and heartache. Plus, I always appreciate his honest, pure music, so I feel her writing would be just as moving.
Teresa @ ♥ Too Many Heartbeats ♥ says
As you know, I am dealing with a serious, chronic illness that left me suddenly homebound and bedridden a little over 3 years ago – at the relatively young age of 38. Over the last couple of months, I have really, really struggled with my illness becoming worse AND with guilt and loneliness. I am SO sad and SO depressed, even though I KNOW my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ loves me and has a purpose for it all. I would love to read this book. Maybe it would give me some of the hope and encouragement that I have been lacking lately.

Thank you for talking about this book. You have got me so interested in it. I would love to read it for myself, but have a couple of friends in mind that could benefit from this book (having lost a loved one and going through depression right now). I appreciate your commentary about this book. Thanks!
