YES Indeedy! You read that right. This bad-boy was made with Black Beans! When my Mom had me taste these brownies at her house, and I raved about how good they were, she chuckled… “Guess what they’re made with?” When I heard her response, I had the same puzzled look on my face as you do right now!
The only complaint I have: It does have a bit of a strong coffee taste. I will definitely reduce the amount next time I make it. It doesn’t taste “bean-y” at all! It is very gooey, and it melts in your mouth! I love the little addition of peanut butter and whip cream!
My daughter even loves them! Shhh, don’t tell her they have healthy stuff in them!
Ingredients: (For complete instructions, Click Here)
4 ounces unsweetened chocolate
1 cup unsalted butter
2 cups soft-cooked black beans, drained well (canned is fine)
1 cup walnuts, chopped
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
¼ cup (granulated) natural coffee substitute (or instant coffee, for gluten-sensitive)
¼ teaspoon sea salt
4 large eggs
1½ cups light agave nectar

Agave Nectar–
Boasts of a low glycemic index and fewer calories per serving than refined sugar! This is my first interaction with Agave, and I would give it a thumbs up. I don’t know that I will use it all the time, but it is a great, healthier alternative to refined sugar for sure!
Have you cooked/baked with Agave Nectar? If so, what do you like about it? What have you heard, pros and cons? Linking up over at Beauty and Bedlam’s Parade of Food!

Oh, my! Those look scrumptious! I would have never guessed. Might have to try it although I’d have to figure out a time to make it, when my children weren’t around. LOL!

Okay – despite all the healthy stuff, I am sure I just gained 10 pounds looking at those scrupmtious pictures! (now I need to go for a brisk walk to burn off those calories I haven’t eaten yet!). 🙂 I am following you from GMGs and if you keep posting recipes like that you better believe I’ll be visiting your blog REALLY often!

Visiting from Tasty Tuesday! This looks delicious. I laughed when I saw the title, ‘healthy brownies.’ But I can hardly wait to make these. I love black beans and we always, ALWAYS, have them on hand. How fun! Thanks for the great recipe. 🙂
