I really do dread it! From the time it takes me to get out an exercise DVD, put it in, and push START… I have already changed my mind.
I’m SO TIRED…
I’m NOT motivated…
I have SO MUCH other stuff to do…
Been there? Thought that?
But like anything, good things come to those who work hard. Here are 10 simple tips that might help you get back into the dreaded exercise groove:
1. Commit to 30 days of working out (20 minutes a day). ANYONE can make time for 20 minutes a day.
2. Pick a routine that combines cardio, weights, and strength training. This will give you the most out of your workout.
3. Write down 10 positive things that you will experience as a result of exercising. (Some examples: Become healthier, increase endurance, practice discipline, good example for children, more energy, etc.)
4. Just move more! We eat, sit, eat some more, sit…. way too much!
5. Find a workout routine that you enjoy. If you have cable, there is a channel called Exercise TV On Demand that is FREE. For me, it is channel 724. It has a bunch of different work out routines that you can do. Did I mention that it is FREE?
6. Go for a long walk, and bring weights along if you have them. (or just push your babes in a stroller)
7. Drink a lot of water! If you don’t like water, put a crystal light packet or squeeze a fresh lemon in it! DID YOU KNOW:
Lemon water helps clean the toxins out of your body. Your skin can’t look healthy if your body is holding onto toxins! When you get rid of toxic waste in your system, your skin will show it first!
We drink WAY too much coffee and tea, and it tends to dehydrate the body. For every cup of coffee you drink, did you know, that you should really drink an extra cup of water? Wowza! There are so many dangers in not getting enough water; like becoming dehydrated!
8. If you are watching some TV in the evening, get up and walk in place or do some sit ups, or leg lifts.
9. CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR! This is always a given, but I just had to put that disclaimer in there.
10. GET EXCITED ABOUT IT! As with most things, sometimes we need to “work up a spirit of enthusiasm” to get the ball rolling.

Great list! I have been working out regularly for the past year but just haven’t been able to get to the point where I “need” to work out. Wish I could, it’s such a struggle with all of the excuses you addressed.
That Exercise on Demand channel sounds perfect. Wish we had that here, it would expose you to a bunch of different workouts, I would guess.

I so needed this because I fell off the shred wagon after 45 days and need to get back on.

I just finished reading your moms book. It was excellent! I had no idea you all had to go through that. Wow, what a testimony! How is Stephen doing today??

I didn’t know that about lemon water. I mean, I know that water is super important and I don’t drink enough of it. I’m bad with coffee, tea and diet coke, but have been thinking a lot about really trying to cut it back or even out.
Thanks for this post, it was both helpful and inspirational.

That’s a great post…I use to work out at home and it was difficult for me to get motivated. It’s easier for me to be motivated outside of my home,…where I don’t have to move the couch just to get started! 🙂

Thanks for the motivation, every week I tell myself I need to exercise and every week I fail. I do think that I will go have a glass of water right now to make up for all the coffee I drank this morning!

Great tips and so true. I always feel so much better after I make myself work out. I love walking or running outside in nature.

Yep! I have been there 🙂 I totally agree, it takes that 30 days (or 3 weeks I have heard) to really make it a habit, not just a dread. There really is nothing like the feeling after you have really worked out and you know your body is doing its job! hehehehe
