is that what a blog is?
I have a big problem with immodesty. Not the kind that makes me judge, but the kind that makes my Spirit cringe.
I understand the world feeling the need to dress the way they want, wear that flirtatious mini skirt, showoff that cleavage, but Christian Women?
It makes my soul do summer salts.; I get uncomfortable. Things run through my mind:
The only man you should try to impress is your OWN husband,
in the privacy of your own home,
Do you know we are at church?
I feel like running over to them, and tucking a napkin into the top of their shirt (kind of joking, but not really).
How do I say something without sounding like I’m judging? Or should I really be concerned about that part of it?

I totally agree. There is usually a reason a woman feels the need to dress like that, and its usually attention! And if a woman is dressing that way, shes willing to do other things for attention too. Keep a woman like that locked away from your husband! lol. A check ive heard a few times “if you have to question whether or not you should be wearing something, you probably shouldn’t be!”

Great post!! I struggle with this in the church too…the only thing I have to be careful about is new Christians who might not know how to dress more modest…I try not to judge right away (which is SO hard) when I meet a new gal that is immodest…however, I don’t understand seasoned Christian women being immodest…I don’t think there is enough teaching about this in the church either because people are too afraid of stepping on others toes, so to speak!
For me, I’m usually pregnant or nursing *wink, wink* and I have to watch the cleavage factor…I don’t own ANY shirts that are meant to show anything off, however, I do need to do the “bending down” test…the other area is the rise of my pants/jeans…I HATE low rise…I have those good ‘ole belly rolls for one thing…(LOL!) but also they are so hard to keep up and all…it’s hard to find good fitting, modest jeans/pants, imo…
Anyway, THANK YOU, so much for this post! Recently, I was apart of a modesty week over here http://sahmissionary.blogspot.com/ and ended out the week interviewing my hubby on this very issue…his answers were interesting…you can see it here…http://theviewfromhiddenvalley.blogspot.com/2009/03/modesty-matters-to-my-man.html

Really enjoyed this topic. Something to chew on as the Sabbath approaches. I find myself constantly being careful when I lean over to pick something up or even how I lean over at a water fountain. My husband has commented about incidents at church that have left me feeling baffled as to why women aren’t more careful. Maybe I should be speaking out when I see something, I do believe it is possible to speak what needs to be said with much love for the women themselves. Thanks for this reminder.

I have to tell you that I completely agree with this post. I am a rather large woman, but I still see it fit to wear what I feel is appropriate out in the world. Whether it be church or just going to the grocery store; I feel the need to wear the appropriate attire that covers what needs to be and to be sure that it isn’t too tight. If I have to question it then I feel that I probably shouldn’t be wearing it.

This post is amazing! I applaud you and thank you from the bottom of my heart for standing up for what you believe and posting it. This is an issue that is very close to my heart as well.
My husband and I have 2 teenagers still in high school. We have been very proud of them and the way they dress. We are very thankful that they started listening to ‘Barlow Girl’ when they were ‘tweens’. If you’re not familiar with Barlow Girl, they are a Christian Girl Band that you will hear on most any contemporary Christian radio station. They sing about loving the Lord, dressing modestly, waiting on dating and remaining pure until your wedding day. My girls own every CD they have ever recorded and we have been to several of their concerts. They are truly fabulous and honor the Lord in all they do! At their concerts, you see how they dress and it is really ‘cool and hip’ but it is most definitely modest.
I couldn’t have chosen better role models for my daughters! Both of my girls have literally followed BG’s stance about everything to a T. Even today at 17 and 15, they still dress extremely modest. They wear tank tops under all of their clothing to make sure their tops aren’t too short or cut too low. They buy boy basketball shorts for marching practice because girls shorts are just too short. They wear jeans under skirts, which I thought looked a little weird at first but now it has really grown on me. They basically layer all their clothing, winter or summer, in order to dress modestly – and I’ve honestly never once told them what to wear. There has never been any bickering back and forth about their wardrobe. I truly credit it all to Barlow Girl!
My 17 year old, who is a senior this year, has even decided NOT to date until she is ready to find someone to marry, even though we told each of them they could begin dating at 16! She is a beautiful girl (even if I do say so myself!) and there IS a really great Christian guy who loves her to death. I know she really likes him, too, but she has kept her commitment. He joined the Marines back in November when he turned 18 and he just left for boot camp earlier this month. He has said he loves her and he will wait on her. Amazing, huh?
So, if any of you have young daughters, I would strongly suggest letting them listening to Barlow Girl. They are incredible young women!
Have a great Sunday!
Blessings,
Teresa <><
