A simile is God’s gift to the visual learner; and that I am! It gives me such an excellent comparison.
Psalm 1:3 says “And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”
I adore the beauty of a tree. Especially a nice BIG one that is flourishing alongside a river bank. It speaks of a long life full of health, vitality and endurance!
As Christians, shouldn’t this be what others see in us? A life of health, vitality and endurance? A tree that has deep roots will stand the test of the roughest, toughest of storms!
Weirsbe says “A tree is a blessing. It holds soil, provides shade and produces fruit. The godly are like trees, with root systems that go deep into the spiritual resources of God’s grace (v. 3). But sadly, many professing Christians are not like trees but are like artificial plants or cut flowers with no roots. They may be beautiful for a while, but soon they die.”
To me, there is nothing more hideous & tacky than to see a beautiful green lawn with a bunch of fake flowers stuck in it.
Are you an artificial plant, or a REAL, vibrant, living one? Are your roots being dipped down deep into God’s Word?
A tree needs light and water to grow. Choose to be BLESSED when you are planted by the river of LIVING WATER!
God has been speaking to me through HIS Word about living a life that is open and naked before Him, with nothing to hide; to live in purity before Him. One area that hits home for me is the area of fitness. I am determined to lose a certain amount of weight. Why? So I can “run the race” laying aside every “weight” that so easily besets me. (Hebrews 12:1) Just try carrying my bundle of joy, Carson James, around during the day; that extra 20 lbs sure makes a difference! (Side Note: Are you trying to lose weight? To do this I am striving towards 3 W’s:
Walking: To go for a 45 minute brisk walk 5 times a week!
Water: To drink 8 glasses of water every day!
The Word: To be in God’s Word every day!
It is my hope and prayer that by focusing on these 3 things, will help me towards living a pure and unashamed life before God, and a lost and dying world (and dont’ forget…whether you realize it or not, they are always watching the way we live!).
CHOOSE to be REAL today. Put away your ARTIFICIAL ways!
